Terms and Conditions

Storyou Storybooks

Last updated: 01.06.2026

By creating an account and using our service, you agree to these Terms and Conditions. Please read them carefully. If you do not agree, do not use the service.

1. Definitions

1.1 User / Parent

The adult (18+) who creates an account and uses the service. Because our stories are created for children, the account holder must always be a parent or legal guardian. You are entering this agreement on your own behalf and as the responsible party for any child whose information you provide.

1.2 Child

The minor on whose behalf the User completes the questionnaire and for whom the story is generated. The Child does not hold an account and is not a party to this agreement. All parental rights, consents, and responsibilities under these terms rest with the User.

1.3 Company / We / Us

Storyou storybooks, founded in Slovenia.

1.4 Service

The web and/or mobile application at storyou-storybooks.com that allows Users to complete a questionnaire about a child and receive a personalized, AI-generated story featuring that child as the main character.

1.5 Questionnaire

The psychology-informed set of questions completed by the User about the child (e.g., personality traits, interests, name). This data is used solely to generate the personalized story.

1.6 Story / Product

The personalized children's story generated by our AI system, based on the Questionnaire responses provided by the User. The story may be delivered as a digital file, a physical printed book, or both, depending on the product tier selected and purchased.

1.7 Beta

The current phase of the service. The service is not yet a finished product. See Article 5.

2. Who Can Use the Service

You must be at least 18 years old to create an account. By registering, you confirm that:

  • You are an adult and the parent or legal guardian of the child for whom you are creating a story.
  • All information you provide about the child is accurate to the best of your knowledge.
  • You have the authority to provide that information and to agree to these terms on the child's behalf.

We do not knowingly collect information directly from children. All data about the child flows through the parent's account.

3. How the Service Works

3.1 The Questionnaire

You complete a questionnaire about your child. The questions are designed to capture meaningful details — personality, interests, values — so the story feels personal. You are completing this on your child's behalf.

3.2 AI-Generated Stories

We use artificial intelligence to write the story. We are transparent about this: a human does not write your child's story. The AI uses the questionnaire responses as its input and produces a narrative where your child is the main character.

The AI may produce results that are imperfect, unexpected, or not exactly what you envisioned. Minor issues with narrative logic, phrasing, or tone are inherent to how AI writing works and are not defects unless the output is clearly unusable (see Article 7).

3.3 No Guarantees on Artistic Outcome

Because the story is generated by AI rather than written to a fixed template, we cannot guarantee that every story will match your expectations. We will not issue refunds simply because you dislike the style or tone of a story that is otherwise functional and personalized.

4. Prices and Payment

During the current beta phase, the service is provided free of charge. Articles 4 and 7 will apply in full when paid tiers are introduced.

4.1 Pricing

Prices are listed at checkout and include applicable VAT. Shipping costs (if physical delivery is selected) are shown separately before payment is confirmed.

4.2 Payment

Payment is processed through Stripe. Your order is not confirmed until payment is successfully received.

4.3 Price Changes

We reserve the right to change prices at any time. Price changes do not affect orders already placed and paid.

5. Beta Service — Important Limitations

The service is currently in early beta. This means:

  • The product may be incomplete. Features may be missing, broken, or behave unexpectedly.
  • The service may change significantly. We may alter, redesign, or remove features without notice.
  • The service may be discontinued. We reserve the right to shut down the beta at any time. If we do so, we will provide as much advance notice as is reasonably possible.
  • You are a tester. By using the service during beta, you accept that you are helping us improve a product that is not yet finished. We welcome and rely on your feedback.
  • Stored files and generated stories may be lost. We will make reasonable efforts to preserve your data, but we cannot guarantee continuity of access during beta. Do not treat the service as permanent storage for important content.

We will not compensate users for interruptions, changes, or discontinuation that occur during the beta period, except as required by applicable law.

6. Delivery

6.1 Digital Delivery

Digital stories are made available via your account page, usually within 5-10 minutes of successful payment and story generation. The story will be available in your account page.

6.2 Physical Books (if applicable)

Physical books are shipped to the address you provide. Shipping typically takes 5-7 business days. We are not responsible for delays caused by third-party carriers or incorrect address details you provide.

7. Returns, Cancellations, and Refunds

7.1 Digital Products — No Right of Withdrawal

Personalized digital stories are created specifically for you and your child. Under EU consumer law (Directive 2011/83/EU, Article 16(c)), the right of withdrawal does not apply to digital content that has already been created to personal specifications, once you have explicitly consented to this and acknowledged that the right of withdrawal is thereby lost.

By placing an order and confirming your consent at checkout, you acknowledge that production begins immediately and you waive the right of withdrawal.

7.2 Cancellation

An order cannot be cancelled once the AI generation process has started, as resources have already been consumed and the product is being created specifically for you.

7.3 Defective Products

If a physical book arrives damaged or with a serious printing error that was not visible in the digital proof you approved, contact us within 14 days of receipt with a clear description and photos. If we confirm the defect, we will either replace the product or issue a refund at our discretion.

Minor AI-related imperfections (awkward sentences, stylistic choices, illustrations that don't perfectly match your expectations) are not defects.

7.4 Your Responsibility to Review

For physical products, you are responsible for reviewing and approving the digital story before we send it to print. Errors present in the approved digital proof are your responsibility, not ours.

8. The Questionnaire, Child Data, and Your Responsibilities

8.1 Accuracy of Information

You are responsible for the accuracy of the questionnaire responses you provide. We rely on this information to generate the story. Providing false, inaccurate, or harmful information about a child is your responsibility.

8.2 Appropriate Use

The questionnaire is designed for the purpose of generating a personalized story. It should not be used to diagnose, assess, or draw clinical conclusions about a child. The story is entertainment, not a psychological evaluation or therapeutic tool.

8.3 Child Data

We process information about your child as described in our Privacy Policy. Because your child is a minor, we apply additional protections to this data. The legal basis for processing this data is your consent, given when you complete the questionnaire and place an order.

You may request deletion of your child's data at any time by contacting us at support@storyou-storybooks.com. Deletion will be carried out as described in our Privacy Policy.

8.4 No Direct Collection from Children

We do not knowingly collect data directly from children. All data about a child is provided by the parent or guardian. If you believe a child has created an account without parental consent, contact us immediately and we will delete the account.

9. AI-Generated Content — Limitations and Transparency

We want to be honest about how the AI works and what it can and cannot do.

9.1 What the AI Does

The AI reads your questionnaire responses and generates an original story. If you upload a photo, the AI uses it only to generate a written appearance description — see section 9.3. It draws on its training to construct a narrative, which means results can vary.

9.2 Imperfections

AI-generated stories may contain:

  • Sentences that feel awkward or generic despite personalization
  • Narrative choices you wouldn't have made yourself
  • Cultural or contextual assumptions that don't fit your family

These are not defects. They are limitations of current AI technology that we are continually working to improve.

9.3 Photo Uploads

You may optionally upload a photo of your child to help personalise the story's visual description. By uploading a photo, you warrant that you have the right to upload the image and that it does not infringe any third-party rights. The photo is processed by our AI system to generate a written description of your child's appearance, which is then used to personalise the story. The photo is deleted once the description is generated and is not stored beyond that point.

AI-generated illustrations are artistic interpretations, not photorealistic likenesses. The illustration will be inspired by the written visual description but may not closely resemble your child.

9.4 Content Filters

We apply filters to prevent the AI from generating harmful, inappropriate, or offensive content. These filters are not perfect. If you receive a story containing content you find inappropriate, report it to us immediately at support@storyou-storybooks.com.

10. Intellectual Property

10.1 Our Platform

All rights to the platform, software, underlying AI models, and the service infrastructure belong to us or our licensors.

10.2 Your Story

Upon full payment, you receive a non-exclusive, non-transferable license to use the generated story for personal, non-commercial purposes — meaning you can read it, print it, and share it within your family. During the beta phase, where the service is provided free of charge, this same personal-use license is granted upon successful generation of your story.

You may not sell or commercially distribute the story.

10.3 Your Input

The questionnaire responses and any content you provide remain yours. By submitting them, you grant us a limited license to use them for the purpose of generating your story.

10.4 AI Authorship and Copyright

AI-generated content exists in a legal grey zone in many jurisdictions. We make no warranty that the generated story is copyrightable in your jurisdiction or that you will hold enforceable copyright over it. We recommend consulting a local legal advisor if copyright ownership is important to you.

11. Content Guidelines

You may not use the service to generate content that:

  • Is illegal, threatening, defamatory, or hateful
  • Depicts or facilitates harm to any child
  • Infringes the intellectual property rights of third parties (e.g., generating stories featuring protected characters like Disney characters)
  • Is obscene or sexually explicit in any form

We reserve the right to cancel orders, block accounts, and report to relevant authorities if we detect violations of these guidelines. We are under no obligation to reimburse you if your order is cancelled for this reason.

12. Our Liability

12.1 Limitation

Our liability is limited to direct damages and to a maximum of the amount you paid for the product to which the damage relates. We are not liable for indirect or consequential losses, including lost profits or non-material harm.

12.2 AI Output

We are not liable for dissatisfaction with the artistic or narrative choices made by the AI, provided the story is functional and reflects the personalization input you provided. Disappointment with the AI's interpretation is not a compensable harm.

12.3 Beta Period

During the beta, our liability for service disruptions, data loss, or feature failures is further limited to the extent permitted by applicable law. We have disclosed that the service is in beta; you accept this risk by using it.

12.4 What We Don't Limit

Nothing in these terms limits our liability for death, personal injury, fraud, or any other matter that cannot be limited by law.

13. Privacy

We process your personal data and your child's data in accordance with our Privacy Policy. The Privacy Policy is part of your agreement with us. Please read it carefully — it explains what data we collect, why, how long we keep it, and your rights.

Because we process data about minors, we take our obligations under GDPR and applicable child protection laws seriously.

14. Changes to the Service and These Terms

14.1 Service Changes

Because the service is in beta, it may change significantly and frequently. We will try to communicate major changes in advance, but cannot always do so.

14.2 Terms Changes

We may update these terms at any time. If we make material changes, we will notify you by email or via the platform before the changes take effect. Continued use of the service after that point constitutes acceptance of the new terms. If you do not accept the new terms, you must stop using the service.

15. Applicable Law and Disputes

These terms are governed by Slovenian law. For EU consumers, mandatory consumer protection provisions of your country of residence also apply and are not displaced by this clause.

Disputes will be submitted to the competent court in Slovenia, unless mandatory legal provisions in your country of residence provide otherwise.

The European Commission offers an online dispute resolution platform for EU consumers: https://ec.europa.eu/consumers/odr.
